Getting here and around:
The airport serving this region of Mexico is the international airport in Cancun. From there, there are a few options for getting to Villa Dolce Vita. The ride from the airport to Soliman Bay is about 1-1/2 hours.
Car Rental. For best mobility during your stay, renting a car is recommended and this is what most guests do. Although there are transit options available, having a car will give you the greatest flexibility. You can also rent a car in Tulum for a day or so and utilize one of the other means to get to Villa Dolce Vita.
Taxi. A taxi can bring you from the airport directly to the door of Villa Dolce Vita. It is expensive though at approximately $110 USD one way
Collectivo (transit van). These vans run constantly up and down the main highway of the Yucatan Peninsula. They are relatively inexpensive and have room for baggage. But they will drop you off on the highway by the entrance road to Soliman Bay and you then face a 2Km walk with your baggage. If you arrive in the evening, there are no roadway lights.
Bus. There are two types of bus transit. The first, ADO, is the main bus line. It is inexpensive and runs frequently. It does not make stops other than its terminals, which are located in Playa Del Carmen and Tulum. You will need to take a taxi from the terminal to Villa Dolce Vita. The second are private bus lines, which also are inexpensive, and they will drop you off on the highway by the entrance to Soliman Bay, as do the collectivos.
Owner Pick-Up – your hosts will pick you up and return you to the airport if you like. The charge for this extra service is $85 USD each way. Many guests utilize this service as it is convenient, a good cost compromise and especially if they are bringing things like diving equipment with them or a lot of luggage.
Getting around
Of course, if you rent a car, getting around is no problem at all. There is an excellent, high-speed highway that runs north and south and just about any place you’d want to go is within a 30-minute drive. Just remember that the “rules of the road” are a bit different in Mexico and there are the notorious “topes” or speed bumps. If you rent a car, just let your hosts know and they will provide you all the information you need for a safe and pleasant driving experience here.
If you choose not to rent a car, the mass transit system is very
good. Collectivo vans run constantly up and down the highway and they
can be flagged down to pick you up, but getting to the highway does
involve a 2KM walk. Taxis can be called for you and they will come to
the villa to pick you up.
